static unpost
My first unpost was meant to be a filler, an experiment, a mere blip. But something like a third of all the posts on this blog are classified as unposts. So it seems appropriate to start this new chapter with another one.
A new chapter, because this is the first post on the newly created static version of my blog. If you’re reading this, it’s (probably!) coming to you from a server courtesy of statichost.eu.
I’m not going to get into the nitty-gritty of how I moved the site here, though I may have something to say about that in a later post, depending on which way the wind’s blowing – and depending on any feedback I get on Ko-fi or Mastodon (see links below each page).
As I write these words, transponderings.blog is actually in a kind of limbo, as the news that it has moved home slowly propagates around the world. It may be that some of you don’t see this unpost as soon as it’s online, simply because you’ll still be shown the old version of the blog. Not for too much longer, I hope.
By the way, the visual design of this site is more or less ‘out of the box’, so at the moment it probably looks like lots of other sites (especially techie ones, which this really isn’t). But I hope I’ll be able to refine that in time.
One techie (!) detail I didn’t manage to get sorted in time was inclusion of thumbnail/cover images to use both in lists of posts and in social media sharing. Sorry if things look a bit dull for a while. Another thing for me to work on!
Lest this unpost become too focused (which wouldn’t do at all), I’ll just finish by asking you all (yes, all three of you who actually found your way here) to drop a comment if you’re able – either on Ko-fi or on Mastodon. It will be good to know that I’m still talking to someone (even if it is just the three of you – you wonderful individuals!).
Where is this blog going? I think it’s still going to be the same kind of random mix, because that’s unfortunately sort of how my brain works. Maybe I’ll include a bit more poetry, because I’ve been doing more of that lately.
I’d also really like to consolidate some of the things I’ve been learning about railway signalling over the past year or two – something I think I talked before about doing on YouTube (or similar).
Right now, though, sleep beckons, as my temporary regime of prescribed melatonin kicks in for another night. Hope to meet new and existing friends in this exciting new world soon!
Night! x
